Win Vista: HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T20N ATA Device - Solution
To solve annoying Windows errors, you might want to try a Windows Registry Check. In most cases, optimizing the Windows registry will speed up your Windows.
you must start regedit ( start -> run [See screenshots at the bottom] Type here: regedit )
search the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control/Class/ search for "4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318" if you doesn't find anything, search only for a part of the string.
now search the propertys UpperFilter an LowersFilter and kill the value. If only one prop. is there, you must kill only the one value
Hey DeadMatt, you are a genious. I arrived here seeking desperatly for a solution or a driver, because suddenly my drive stopped working. The laptop is a fujitsu N6460 about two weeks old, vista home premium. Am pretty sure windowsupdate ruined the driver settings, but now is working again. As an additional problem, I could not read the drivers cd, because well, no cd! Your recommendation on tweaking the registry worked perfectly.
DeadMatts solution worked a treat. Got my DVD drive back and working. I used CD's to install various software options on day of new notebook delivery then DVD drive dissapeared. I reckon it must have occured during a microsoft auto update...anyway, thanks to DeadMatt, all fixed.
My dvd-rom wont work at all. I got this registry tip before. But the neither UpperFilter nor LowerFilter is there at all. Nothing will work with the cd\dvd drive at all. I've updated the drivers.
i followed everthing but appears the same. After i changed the value to 0 it does not make any changes Do i have to restart the computer or wait for a period of time because i need to use dvd drive to install some programs if someone has a solution for me please reply mi laptop is a Pavilion dv5-1235dx Entertainment it came with windows vista home premium 64 bit i just got it. thanks
HiThank you very much!!! At first i didn't think your trick was going to work at all, but in totally worked! You're a tiger (tiger = master), again thank you!!!Bye
i just bought the acer aspire 5535 and it cant read certain games or dvds. i've tried reinstalling the driver (HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GT10N SCSI CdRom Device) but its not had any effect. anyone got any ideas how to get it to read them? its supposed to be able to play all dvds and be great for gaming but so far i'm not seeing that.
Applying changes to the registry is not that simple, you can really destroy your pc with changing a wrong entry. Please keep that in mind and write the original values down before changing anything, so you can put them in again!
hi can anybody help me because my DVD/Cd-ROM won't work and when I checked my device manager under DVD theirs yellow exclamation point and this is the message "Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19) please help me please coz i need to install my driver for my printer please thanks so much...Win Vista: HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T20N ATA Device - Error Code 19 Solution for Asus Laptop thanks
;)I followed the registry instructions for my Acer 5050-3785 with Windows Vista, when I go through the RUN=regedit then the listed digits, I only had Highfilters listed, I right clicked on it, clicked modify, it showed the value; NTIDrvr. I went in removed the NTIDrvr and typed in "0" and then exited out, restarted computer and then my DVD drive didn't show, I then went into the regedit again took the "0" out and put the NTIDrvr back in and restarted. My dvddriver then started working and recognized that I had a dvd in and would play it.....I hope this helps someone....
I went exactly trough the instructions, restarted and then nothing happened... still doesnt recognize the device
I get this problem in the device properties:
Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)
what now??? Please Help... this message appeared immediately after i followed the instructions... Infact i read that I was suppossed to note the values AFTER I changed them...
I tried the window registry change as listed in the help forum to no avail. Doing so also seemed to affect my magicjack. What else can i do to get my DVD/CD driver back? this all occured due to an iphone update.
I've done the entire thing listed in here, but there's 2 problems. There are no upper/lower filters. Also, my drive is recognized, but it keeps spinning up/down (aka trying to find a CD that IS in there, but it won't recognise it. I've tried various things - installing, uninstalling, etc etc. CDGONE fix, everything. Could someone please give me a quick hand on this?
Same problem as the two dudes above - dvd is recognised by laptop, but cannot play dvds - there are not Upper/Lower filters in the registry.Laptop is Asus F5V Series. If someone can help, pls - alexander_r@abv.bg
Same problem on an Acer Aspire 5520 running windows7.....I could see the dvd/cdrom in the device manager but it would not work. Tried uninstalling the driver and then the dvd/cdrom disappeared. Nothing works....windows 7 troubleshooting does nothing.
First of all: Is there any new CD/DVD Software installed lately? Like a Burning programm? Try to delete it, does this solve any problems?

Find the properties “UpperFilter” and “LowerFilter” and modify the value to 0. If there is only one property available, set only that value to 0. Be sure to remember the old value in case something went wrong and you have to restore the settings!
If you have no entries for UpperFilter and LowerFilter, have you tried to add these entries with value "0"? Just adding Upperfilters might be already enough.
