E Book
Electronic book, an online digital version of a book which can be downloaded from the internet for a certain fee. It is read directly on the PC or with the help of an E-Book-Reader.


E Book Reader
Specific hardware to read E-Books without the computer. For the most part, E-Book-Reader consist only out of a flat screen and an entry function.


EDP
Electronic data processing. This notion refers to the acquisition, storage and editing of data and document with the computer.


E IDE
Enhancement of the IDE standards.


EEPROM
"Electrically eraseable programmable read only memory" these are small storage units with fixed data. They can be rewritten with special EEPROM writers.


EGA
Enhanced Graphics Adapter. Now outdated standard fpr graphic enhancement cards for (DOS compatible) PCs. In the textmode, 80-130 characters can be displayed per line. The graphic mode can handle 640 x 350 pixel and 16 colours. Nowadays, high-performance VGA cards are classified as PC standard.


EGS
Enhanced Graphics System, offers an 24-Bit window system to Amiga users, whose graphical interface "intuition" is limited to a colour depth of 8 Bit. EGS features an automatic colour depth adjustment and allows the configuration of several graphic cards in one Amiga.


Emoticon
The combinition of "emotion" and "icon" is the technical term for "smiley". These images out of special characters are used to express emotion and feelings in a chat or forum: :-)


Emulator
An Emulator is a program, which simulates an mostly outdated computer inclusive processor, sound and graphic in order to be able to use its software under another operating system.


EMS
Enhanced Messaging, used to send text, images and sounds with mobile phones.

Ethernet Card
The ethernet card, also known as network interface card, is neccessary to connect several computers (for example to use the same printer from each computer or to exchange files very fast). Please read also: network interface card.


EXIF
Short term for EXchangeable Image File, it saves camera settings and photograph data as well as date and time additionally to the digital image into the image file. With the help of software like the free EXIF Viewer this information can be displayed.
