Java
Java is a programming language developed by SUN. As Java is independent from the operating system, a programm is able to run on all Java-capable systems such as Windows, MacOS, Linux, several PDAs and also mobile phones. Java-Applets are small programs being started directly within the webbrowser.


Javascript
Javascript is a script language developed by Netscape for the use in webpages. Nearly all browser and webpage elements can be controlled or read with Javascript. This way, an easy URL forwarding or pop-up windows can be coded.


JPEG
Abbreviation for "Joint Photografic Expert Group". JPEG imaes with the file extension .jpg compress data in order to minimize storage space. The format is convenient for photos with little filesize.


Joystick
Input device for computer games. Especially popular in the 80s an 90s of the 20th century it was increasingly replaced by joypads. The first control sticks had two so-called "fire knobs" and a navigating stick and were quite bulky.


Joypad
Input device for computer games. While the first joypads were quite bulky, updated models for computers and paddles are formed ergonomically and fit well into the hands. The left thumb is used to control a navigating cross into 8 directions, the right hand is used to handle numerous buttons with different functions.
