What's: Cookie
The communication between browser and webserver, which is adressed, functions according to the rules of the HTTP protocol. This includes the break-up of the connection between browser and webserver as soon as the data transfer (text and images) is done. This way, the webserver is not able to remember any information about the user.
For this reason, Netscape developed cookies. Cookies enable the server to store information on the user's computer in order to determine if this user has been visiting the website before, for example. If the user is recognized, he does not have to enter his name again. It works similar in our forum. When you login, a cookie is being saved.

At your next visit, you do not have to log in again, because our server "recognizes" you on the basis of the cookie. 20 different data packages with each 4 KB can be saved per domain. If you decline the acceptance of a cookie, the page might not be displayed in a correct way anymore afterwards. Who wants to play it safe can delete cookies manually from time to time. The MS Internet Explorer saves cookies, if you use user profiles, in the directory \Windows\Profile\User Profile\Cookies and if not in the directory \Windows\Cookies.

Cookies can be deleted easily in the Internet Explorer through Settings / Internet Options.
The cookie is a text file and does not allow any further access to the file system. A
Cookie virus does
not exist. Furthermore, a webpage is not able to readout cookies from another webpage. Consequently, the domain computerhilfen.de is not even able to readout our own cookies if they have been saved by a file from computerhilfen.com.
