Computer games, software, DVDs and many new audio CDs are equipped with copy protection in order not to be copied illegally. However there was a possibility to circumvent this new protection mechanism shortly after its development.

One possibility of protection for Software CDs includes the integration of errors in the data system which are being corrected automatically while copying the CD. The program scans for these errors now. If they are lacking, it is a copy and the program does not start. New CD writer software allows for example RAW copies which copies errors as well and circumvents the protection this way.
