The File Transfer Protocol is the protocol to send data within the internet. There are FTP servers whose address starts with ftp:// instead of http://. It is used to up- and download data (Upload and download), for example upload the own webpage onto a server.

The advantage of FTP downloads in comparision to normal http downloads is for example the possibility to restart once started and then cancelled downloads.
