What's: MPEG
MPEG stands for Motion Pictures Experts Group and describes a method to compress digital video data in order to make it fir onto a
VideoCD or
DVD for example. The MPEG method does not save each
pixel of every frame within a movie individually. Instead, the complete picture is only being saved in so-called keyframes. Between two keyframes, only the variation to the first keyframe is saved. This is why the method is excellently appropriate for slow sequences without much action.
