What's: Mini Disk
The mini disk is an enhancement from Sony for the storage of audio data (music) in a small and handy format.
In contrast to the CD with its 12 centimetres diamter, the MD measures just under 8 cm but holds up to 80 minutes stereo data or the double amount of mono data, due to the
ATRAC procedure.
The main advantage is the casing which reminds of a floppy disk and protects the disk from dust and scratches. Mini disks can be rewritten unlimited times just like
CD-RWs. Title and disk names can be entered, individual songs can be deleted or relocated at all times.
The data is being written on the disk with a magnet modulations overwriting method and is read by an optical laser.
