Dual core processor?

Hi everyone,

I was wondering... was is the actual benefit of having a dual core processor??? It is faster in general or only better at multitasking?

You can see at speed statistics, that a dual core cpu is faster then a single core cpu, because it can process more small task-chunks at the sime time (2 cores doing the work )

It shows faster processing power on cpu-intense tasks like photo- or videoediting. But of course, high-speed cpus are also needed to run Vista or open a new Word 2007 document...
