What does the following message mean, it has appeared on my laptop "1720-SMART Hard Drive detects imminent failure (Failing Attr.:05)", now it will not start up correctly.

It means your hard drive is about to die, and you should save off data while it's still easy, and replace hard drive as soon as possible.
