Title: sharpen a picture? Post by: big_red on 13.11.06, 01:50:26 hi, i'm not a photographer and i just got started with my digital camera. I guess it's very basic but I can't figure out how to sharpen a picture or only parts of a picture. I would also like to change the size of the image. Is there any freeware available? All I have considering software is windows paint. will it work for me or does anyone have a recommendation...? I'm using windows xp if this is important
thanks Title: Re: sharpen a picture? Post by: JoSsiF on 13.11.06, 10:35:09 Hi |
I'm afraid Windows (http://www.computerhilfen.de/fachbegriffe-w-Windows.html) Paint is not the tool of choice for you :) A suitable and fast freeware meeting your requirements is Irfan View. If you want to have advanced image editing and creating functions, you should try "The Gimp", which is freeware as well. JoSsiF 8) Title: Re: sharpen a picture? Post by: nico on 13.11.06, 11:32:58 Hi big_red,
as JossiF already said, Irafanview is a nice little freeware. I guess, you can also sharpen your images with it, at least resize is not a problem. How to resize: http://www.computerhilfen.de/webmaster-bilder-groesse-resize.php3 (german, but the screenshots are english, should be clear with that already). Download Irfanview: http://www.computerhilfen.de/download.php?id=26691029659913773 Instead of sharpen your image afterwards, which most of the time result in a more bad quality, you should consider to take the pic again with the right sharpness where you want it next time: It is possible to soften an image afterwards, because then you loose information. But you cannot add the sharpness/detail information, that have not been in the picture. What the software (http://www.computerhilfen.de/fachbegriffe-s-Software.html) just does is to enhance the missing pixels by more or less guessing. Title: Re: sharpen a picture? Sharpening selected part of an image is no problem either. However, as nico said, applying a sharpening filter will always cause a quality loss. Since Irfan View doesn't provide to adjust the level of sharpening, you should rather follow nico's suggestion to take the photo again :) JoSsiF 8) Title: Re: sharpen a picture?
