Title: What drivers do I need to install XP?
Post by: CSUjr on 18.05.07, 21:35:22
I have a HP pavilion Media Center m8000y that came with an OEM copy of Vista Home Premium.

I have upgraded it to Vista Ultimate.

I want to now partition the hard drive and install Windows XP into that partition.

I am being told that I need to install certian "drivers" so that the motherboard can recognize that partition.

My system information is showing my Motherboard ID as; Broadwater-P5BW-LA-00

Can someone tell me what drivers I need to have to install Windows XP into that partition? - And where I can get the drivers, and how to install them?

Thanks,
Charles

Hello,
thus it is very heavily the drivers too gotten, because HP no drivers for XP give raus separate only for Vista! You know certainly like your computer (http://www.computerhilfen.com/explanation-c-Computer.html) equipped are, then you can go to drivers nevertheless on a side and look for the correct drivers! :D

What for drivers?
Diagram maps driver, (http://www.computerhilfen.com/explanation-d-Driver.html) sound maps driver, (http://www.computerhilfen.com/explanation-d-Driver.html) wireless lan (http://www.computerhilfen.com/explanation-l-LAN.html) driver (http://www.computerhilfen.com/explanation-d-Driver.html) (if you have), to chip driver, (http://www.computerhilfen.com/explanation-d-Driver.html) printer driver (http://www.computerhilfen.com/explanation-d-Driver.html) (if you have), scanners driver (http://www.computerhilfen.com/explanation-d-Driver.html) (if you have) and I do not believe more need you for the beginning! ;)

Yes and with this search I know you badly a helping, because am from Germany and know not a great many English driver (http://www.computerhilfen.com/explanation-d-Driver.html) sides!  :-\

But nevertheless much luck! ;)

Much fun with looking for! :)

The HP website only offers MS Vista drivers:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?lc=en&cc=us&product=3385415&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN&dlc=en&

Maybe you can try to install Windows (http://www.computerhilfen.com/explanation-w-Windows.html) XP without extra drivers and hope, that XP will recognize most hardware (http://www.computerhilfen.com/explanation-h-Hardware.html) on its own. But you might need a special program like "Partition Magic" to repartition your drive that you can also install XP.

Well I called Microsoft Support and they said that the drivers are essential.

They said that I have to get the drivers to install XP from HP and that HP should be able to provide me with them.

They also said that once those drivers are installed that I then have to do a clean install of XP, which wipes out everything else on the hard drive, and then, during the install of XP, I have to create 2 partitions.

Once that is complete then I have to reboot and then install Vista into one of those partitions.

So, the sticking point here is trying to get the necessary drivers from HP. A lot of people are saying that HP does not have these drivers and/or will not provide them - Microsoft says different.  Microsoft says that HP DOES have the drivers and that by all rights they Should provide them.  Microsoft also said that if HP denies or refuses this that they will call them and assist me in getting them.

I don't understand why there is all of this "Wrangling" about this issue with HP and just go ahead and do what Microsoft says that they Should do.

My only comfort in this, at this time, is that Microsoft says that they will have HP give me what I need.

So I guess I'll just have to wait and see.

Hello, ive seen your Questions.

At first sorry for my English. Im german and only here, because the nice "Nico" asked for help in the German Part here.

For doing several partitions use this software:

>>>press here<<< (http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=115843&package_id=173828)

and take thr first donload-possibility.
An good manual, youŽll find here:

press here (http://gparted.sourceforge.net/)

Of course, you can do the same, with the integrated Vistasystemsoftware, butI cant really describe it in english.

So i hope these twi links will help you, for the first time.

Bernd

As Luke said, with that kind of software (http://www.computerhilfen.de/fachbegriffe-s-Software.html) you should be able to change the partitions WITHOUT deleting and reinstalling windows. (http://www.computerhilfen.de/fachbegriffe-w-Windows.html) But, thats not a MS program so they probably don't know it :)

You should first try it like this (make a backup (http://www.computerhilfen.de/fachbegriffe-b-Backup.html) of all your files). If that doesnt work, you can delete everything and try the microsoft program.

The HP website doesn't habe XP drivers, but if you know which parts are built in (graphic adapter, (http://www.computerhilfen.de/fachbegriffe-a-Adapter.html) sound card etc...) you might get them from the manufacturers. But you CAN install Windows (http://www.computerhilfen.de/fachbegriffe-w-Windows.html) XP without those special drivers, if Windows (http://www.computerhilfen.de/fachbegriffe-w-Windows.html) cannot find a matching driver, (http://www.computerhilfen.de/fachbegriffe-d-Driver.html) it just uses an own "standard version" with less functionality.

Hi Guys,

well when i got my win vista ultimate, i reinstalled all my 2 systems to be on the safe side.
Just like Luke said, the only thing you have to do, is to know what hardware (http://www.computerhilfen.com/explanation-h-Hardware.html) u got. Write down the hardwares names and just download (http://www.computerhilfen.com/explanation-d-Download.html) the drivers from the manufactureŽs sites.
But the most of your hardware (http://www.computerhilfen.com/explanation-h-Hardware.html) should be supported by xp.

Greetings sQar...
