Im sorry but i cant speak english very well.

I had found a tricky thing^^

you must start regedit ( start -> run [See screenshots at the bottom] Type here: regedit )

search the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control/Class/
search for "4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318"
if you doesn't find anything, search only for a part of the string.

now search the propertys UpperFilter an LowersFilter and kill the value. If only one prop. is there, you must kill only the one value

on my laptop (http://www.computerhilfen.com/explanation-l-Laptop.html) it works!!

Hey DeadMatt, you are a genious. I arrived here seeking desperatly for a solution or a driver, (http://www.computerhilfen.com/explanation-d-Driver.html) because suddenly my drive stopped working. The laptop (http://www.computerhilfen.com/explanation-l-Laptop.html) is a fujitsu N6460 about two weeks old, vista home premium. Am pretty sure windows (http://www.computerhilfen.com/explanation-w-Windows.html) update (http://www.computerhilfen.com/explanation-u-Update.html) ruined the driver (http://www.computerhilfen.com/explanation-d-Driver.html) settings, but now is working again.
As an additional problem, I could not read the drivers cd, because well, no cd!
Your recommendation on tweaking the registry (http://www.computerhilfen.com/explanation-r-Registry.html) worked perfectly.

Thanks buddy.

Julio

DeadMatts solution worked a treat. Got my DVD (http://www.computerhilfen.com/explanation-d-DVD.html) drive back and working. I used CD's to install various software (http://www.computerhilfen.com/explanation-s-Software.html) options on day of new notebook (http://www.computerhilfen.com/explanation-n-Notebook.html) delivery then DVD (http://www.computerhilfen.com/explanation-d-DVD.html) drive dissapeared.  I reckon it must have occured during a microsoft auto update...anyway, thanks to DeadMatt, all fixed.

Cheers

please take a look at the following guide: You need to enter some registry-values to make the  drive appear again.

My dvd-rom wont work at all. I got this registry (http://www.computerhilfen.com/explanation-r-Registry.html) tip before. But the neither UpperFilter nor LowerFilter is there at all.
Nothing will work with the cd\dvd drive at all.
I've updated the drivers.

This is driving me crazy.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Applying changes to the registry (http://www.computerhilfen.com/explanation-r-Registry.html) is not that simple, you can really destroy your pc with changing a wrong entry. Please keep that in mind and write the original values down before changing anything, so you can put them in again!

;)I followed the registry (http://www.computerhilfen.com/explanation-r-Registry.html) instructions for my Acer 5050-3785 with Windows (http://www.computerhilfen.com/explanation-w-Windows.html) Vista, when I go through the RUN=regedit then the listed digits, I only had Highfilters listed, I right clicked on it, clicked modify, it showed the value; NTIDrvr.  I went in removed the NTIDrvr and typed in "0" and then exited out, restarted computer (http://www.computerhilfen.com/explanation-c-Computer.html) and then my DVD (http://www.computerhilfen.com/explanation-d-DVD.html) drive didn't show, I then went into the regedit again took the "0" out and put the NTIDrvr back in and restarted.  My dvd (http://www.computerhilfen.com/explanation-d-DVD.html) driver (http://www.computerhilfen.com/explanation-d-Driver.html) then started working and recognized that I had a dvd (http://www.computerhilfen.com/explanation-d-DVD.html) in and would play it.....I hope this helps someone....

I get this problem in the device properties:

Windows cannot start this hardware (http://www.computerhilfen.com/explanation-h-Hardware.html) device because its configuration information (in the registry) (http://www.computerhilfen.com/explanation-r-Registry.html) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)

I tried the window registry (http://www.computerhilfen.com/explanation-r-Registry.html) change as listed in the help forum to no avail. Doing so also seemed to affect my magicjack.
What else can i do to get my DVD/CD driver (http://www.computerhilfen.com/explanation-d-Driver.html) back? this all occured due to an iphone update. (http://www.computerhilfen.com/explanation-u-Update.html)

Slight difference on my problem.

I've done the entire thing listed in here, but there's 2 problems. There are no upper/lower filters. Also, my drive is recognized, but it keeps spinning up/down (aka trying to find a CD that IS in there, but it won't recognise it. I've tried various things - installing, uninstalling, etc etc. CDGONE fix, everything. Could someone please give me a quick hand on this?

Laptop is an Asus Z83U running windows (http://www.computerhilfen.com/explanation-w-Windows.html) Vista.

Same problem on an Acer Aspire 5520 running windows7.....I could see the dvd/cdrom in the device manager but it would not work. Tried uninstalling the driver (http://www.computerhilfen.com/explanation-d-Driver.html) and then the dvd/cdrom disappeared. Nothing works....windows 7 troubleshooting does nothing.

First of all: Is there any new CD/DVD Software (http://www.computerhilfen.com/explanation-s-Software.html) installed lately? Like a Burning programm? Try to delete it, does this solve any problems?

Quote:
Find the properties “UpperFilter” and “LowerFilter” and modify the value to 0.

If you have no entries for UpperFilter and LowerFilter, have you tried to add these entries with value "0"? Just adding Upperfilters might be already enough.
