Title: CPU upgrade
Post by: Kenny Cowburn on 04.05.09, 09:37:14
Iīm running video editing software (http://www.computerhilfen.com/explanation-s-Software.html) on my somewhat dinosaur of a computer, (http://www.computerhilfen.com/explanation-c-Computer.html) Fujitsu Siemens Scaleo 600 p.
I have upgraded pretty much all I can except the CPU, (http://www.computerhilfen.com/explanation-c-CPU.html) which is a P 4 2.53Ghz. 478 socket
The system is not able to handle the footage from my EX3 XDCAMEX..........(very juttery playback)
My question is, what options do I have as far as upgrading the CPU (http://www.computerhilfen.com/explanation-c-CPU.html) is concerned, what will the motherboard (http://www.computerhilfen.com/explanation-m-Motherboard.html) be able to handle?

I know that the best option is to get a new computer (http://www.computerhilfen.com/explanation-c-Computer.html) with more power, but I pretty much need a quick fix for the DINO, while I scrounge the cash together for a new setup

any ideas?

thanks
k

Socket 478 is quite old, and there's no thrilling CPUs available for it. Best I was able to find is a Intel Pentium (http://www.computerhilfen.com/explanation-p-Pentium.html) 4 - 3.4 GHz - but that one was quite expensive (more than 80 Euros).

I don't think you have any good chance of upgrading the CPU (http://www.computerhilfen.com/explanation-c-CPU.html) of your computer (http://www.computerhilfen.com/explanation-c-Computer.html) without adding a new motherboard (http://www.computerhilfen.com/explanation-m-Motherboard.html) as well.

in most cases you are not able to upgrade an OEM computer (http://www.computerhilfen.com/explanation-c-Computer.html) like the Fujitsu. one can test it, but thereīs no guarantee that it will work

the problem is : if you donīt know the processor (http://www.computerhilfen.com/explanation-p-Processor.html) compatibility list of your motherboard, (http://www.computerhilfen.com/explanation-m-Motherboard.html) the new CPU (http://www.computerhilfen.com/explanation-c-CPU.html) maybe wonīt work

by the way the fastest socket 478 CPU (http://www.computerhilfen.com/explanation-c-CPU.html) that you can buy new is a pentium (http://www.computerhilfen.com/explanation-p-Pentium.html) 4 3 Ghz. other possibility would be a second-hand processor. (http://www.computerhilfen.com/explanation-p-Processor.html) but as I say, you donīt know if it works
