Install more RAM memory

Additional memory (RAM) is a fast and easy way to accelerate the computer’s speed. Before the purchase of new RAM it has to be clear, which components the PC needs and how much room is available.

A good idea is to bring a RAM component of your computer (wrapped antistatically) or the mainboard’s manual into the store. This way, employees in specialised PC trade are able to find out which type of RAM is needed and if it needs to individual or double components.

In order to build in memory or to count the free RAM slots, the mainboard has to be searched for these components. They are arrested tightly on both sides. In order to loosen the memory components, the security clip has to be pushed outwards on both sides carefully.

The new memory component has notches on the bottom side, preventing false assembling. These notches belong on top of the gaps of the motherboard slot. The memory component only fits in one direction into the board. It absolutely needs to be attached in the right direction on the moterhboard - this should not be a problem on closer inspection.

What happens if it is plugged in in a wrong way by force, shows this webpage clearly. By soft pressure, the memory component snaps in correctly and the white security clips are going back upwards. Adjust these clips carefully, until these snap in as well.

Connect all cables and check the available memory fo find out if the new components were recognised. If the computer does not start, the correct position of all components has to be checked as well as all cable connections.

Under Windows the available memory is displayed by right mouse click on the work center icon (select “Properties” here).
