The notebook producer Acer is now recalling certain lithium-ion battery packs containing cells made by Sony and used in Acer notebooks. These battery packs might lead to overheating. The following models sold in the USA and Canada between May 2004 and November 2006 may have battery packs affected by the replacement program:
TravelMate Series, beginning with: 242x, 320x, 321x, 330x, 422x, 467x, 561x, C20x
Aspire Series, beginning with: 556x, 560x, 567x, 930x, 941x, 980x
If your model is listed here, the bar code on the bottom or side of the battery pack should be checked and compared with the table on this Acer website. Affected devices will be replaced at no costs. The instructions on the webpage should be followed or service numbers can be called for help.
In the last year, several battery packs have been recalled, being attached to notebooks of producers as for example Sony, Fujitsu Siemens, Dell and Apple. Now Acer is also warning not to use the old battery pack while awaiting the new one. Instead, only the AC adapter power cord should be used.
