When creating a website or a weblog, soon there is the need for an own
internet domain name, so the website will be found at www.my-domain.com. This tip shall help where to find information on registering the domain name and first of all - check if the domain is still available. Just typing the desired web-adress in the browser does not alway help: Some domain names were already registered, but are missing content yet.

Is the domain name still available, a
domain name registrar handles the request for you and also offers in most cases the webspace, where you can upload and host your website: Often called a hosting service. Some registrars like
register.com offers also tools for newbies to start creating a website with less programming experience.
After finding an unused domain name, you most of the times can select if the site at the new domain shall be used only for email (you then get an own wmail address like name@domain-name.com) or for a website project. You can also choose, if you only need a domnain forwarding to an already existing website or a blog or a complete site with also discspace on a webserver: Good for the first website.
If wanting to register a contry-code domain (like .de for Germany, .jp for Japan or .nl for the Netherlands), there are some extra issues to check first: Not every domain name registrar offers also the country domains. Some country domains also require a local person to be able to register the domain.
